Original review from 2023:
I own a bunch of cheaper Gator hangers and wanted a K&M, as it should be better. It wasn't.
First, the construction is kinda sub-par. The hanging holes are soft and a screw cuts them when tightening. A couple of metal washers can fix it, but I believe, they ended up too expensive for K&M. Second, this thing is really never that stable, the base plate wiggles under load (and I'm used to the fact wall hangers don't do this).
Second, the hook is, uhm, weird. It has no center point for the headstock, that's why all headstocks will wiggle. You cannot just hang the guitar and let it settle in, you need to control, how exactly do you place the headstock, as very many options exist (and in most the guitar is hitting the wall).
Third, the hook is just too short from the wall. My guitars just hit the wall with the body. And again, I don't have all these problems with Gator hangers at all.
Update after two years (2025):
I initially didn't like them, but the one I bought back then wasn't problematic since. I grew to like it. The only issue left was 'too close to the wall for a non-solidbody instrument'. I wanted to try something better and tried the String Swing. Ended up totally not liking the material of the String Swing and wanting to get a couple of K&Ms for that nice cork texture. Yeah, I know, that cork is rumored to be fragile, but mine are still holding and one of my instruments is a 5kg asymmetric bass.
So, I got a couple of more for a new studio. This time it has wooden walls, mounting wasn't an issue and washers were not required. No issues or gripes yet, they just work and the 'tighter to the wall' is a plus in that space. Functionally and aesthetically just no complaints this time.
Yeah, you cannot just throw your guitar in the hanger without looking and expect it to slide into the optimum position, but taking extra care also works for me. At the end I prefer those hangers to Gator ones for a nice cork finish. Gators in comparison seem really indestructible and more abuse-friendly tho.
So at the end I change the rating from 3 to 4 stars, as those are the hangers I use and enjoy. I keep some spare ones for the case the cork wears out, but this time hadn't come yet.
